Well, well, well – what a week it has been for Mr. Galliano! I wonder if his P45 was beautifully designed and carried with it a whiff of Dior Poison? For those of you that have been living under a rock, John Galliano – head designer at Christian Dior – has been fired from the haute couture fashion house after his anti-Semitic slurs in a Parisian café.
Outrageous quotes have been splashed over newspapers all over the world, the most insane being that ‘after drinking two bottles of wine’ he called a fellow café goer ‘a dirty jew face’ and proclaimed to love Hitler. Celebrities including Natalie Portman are said to be horrified by the designer’s drunken rant. Dior were quick to fire the eccentric monstrosity, but unfortunately the damage had been done with Dior’s AW 2011 show attracting a very small, less than famous crowd. Ouch….
Ralph Lauren, not content with dominating the sporty fashion app, has released its second instalment of ‘The RL Gang’. The concept, essentially Net-A-Porter for children, is a shoppable storybook, narrated by Uma Thurman. The latest edition goes the extra mile by catering for all those lonely stage mums out there, as parents can upload a picture of their child star in the making, in an attempt to secure them a place in the next edition.
Facebook fans will be encouraged to vote for their favourite kid, who will then be flown to NY for a fashion shoot (sorry to go on about this, but aren’t lucky child millionaires getting a tad boring?). “By delivering a best-in-class virtual shopping experience to both parents and their children, our customers can discover their style in a way that is engaging, informative and entertaining,” David Lauren, executive vice president of advertising, marketing and corporate communications said. A print edition is also available for purchase in store.
Over in the Fragrance world, perfume lovers the world over are rejoicing at the news that Jo Malone is returning to the world of fragrance creation, with her new brand Jo Loves. Jo sold her brand Jo Malone to Estee Lauder in 1999 and worked as Creative Director until her departure in 2006, after which she remained rather quiet. Whilst fragrance names and concepts have not yet been released her first range is rumoured to be focused around Tea that Jo loves…Builders anyone?
And finally, has Lady Gaga landed a role in CATS! the musical? No, theatre going Little Monsters, I’m afraid not. Here is a picture of her before strutting her stuff on the catwalk for Thierry Mugler – pretty scary stuff!
Have a great weekend,
Danyelle
