Today Converse saved the iconic 100 Club on Oxford Street from extinction. Despite being one of London’s most storied venues, it has been in financial chains for quite some time. You may remember a high-profile campaign to save it last year, including a Facebook page with 19k fans, support from the rock ‘n roll hall of fame including Liam Gallagher, Mick Jagger, Bobby Gillespie and benefit gigs from artists like Ronnie Wood and Sir Paul McCartney, the club was still financially hamstrung at the end of 2010.
So in came Converse. No real details on the character of the deal yet but on the face of it, they seem like perfect bedfellows: good for the club as the legend can live on, and as for Converse, well they are seen as saviours, while also getting to bask in both the history and future myth-making that we will surely witness in that very tiny, very loud and very sweaty room on Oxford Street
In Converse’s words:
"We at Converse are very excited about our new partnership with the legendary 100 Club in London... Converse and the 100 Club both share a love for music and this partnership is a great opportunity to reunite the 100 Club with a generation who experienced history inside its walls, as well as introduce it to a new generation with a vow to bring the best in music to its legendary stage."
