“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever does”
The quote above from Margarate Mead, the American cultural anthropoligist came to my slightly wine fuelled mind at the end of an enjoyable evening last night. Granted the guy may not change the world, but hear me out because he might just save a few lives, whilst also teaching us the power of motivating commited people around a cause.
After guessing the people in the back of his cab worked in advertising, he proceeded to hand me his card..
The guys name was Ken and he has taken it upon himself to campaign against Xenon headlights. They are the blue/white lights many modern cars have, that blind you when coming the other way. If you catch them in your rear view mirror they can be mistaken for police lights too. Having mentioned his campaign and clocked my obvious enthusiasm for his cause - they have always iritated me too - he went on to take me through a full cross media marketing onslaught that included listening to a BBC radio interview he'd done, watching a youtube clip from his appearance on the One Show, reading an article in a magazine called Adinews, and being told about another article in the telegraph.
As you might have guessed, by this point I was dazzed but on board. Given he needs just 40 more names added to his partition in ordeer that the Government have to give it their full attention, I thought I would write about it here. All you have to do is visit his website; the catchy named www.blindedbixenon.co.uk that he set up to "enlighten those that blind others"! Once there you just needed to click on the link to sign the partition.
Good luck to him is what I say.
